Rupert Stuart-Smith: How does a glacier end up in court? Scientific Evidence and Climate Change Litigation

Abstract

This lecture will consider the role that the courts can play in addressing climate injustice and the scientific evidence that can support legal claims. In recent years, growing numbers of lawsuits have been brought on issues related to climate change and greater than 1,800 suits have now been filed worldwide. These cases include claims seeking to reduce greenhouse gas emissions or to hold corporate emitters financially responsible for climate change impacts.

Der Vortrag findet am Donnerstag, 5. Mai 2022 um 17:00 Uhr am Institut für Europäische Ethnologie, Hanuschgasse 3, 1010 Wien, Seminarraum 1 statt.
