Işıl Karataş, MA

Işıl Karataş is a research assistant and teaching fellow (preadoc) at the Institute for European Ethnology and, together with Alexa Färber, runs the transdisciplinary working group “Studio Audio Visual Research” and is a member of the Franco-German research network “Penser l'urbain par l'image” (PUI ). She completed a joint master's degree in the trinational Master's program “European Film and Media Studies” (Université Lumière Lyon 2 / École Normale Supérieure de Lyon, Utrecht University and the Bauhaus University Weimar). In her dissertation project, she uses multisensory ethnography to investigate the phenomenon of “artist-run film labs” in order to understand the complex emotional and sensory relationships between human (filmmaker) and non-human (technology) actors in a rapidly changing media environment. She is a (multi)media maker herself and experiments with different audio- visual forms and formats.
